Rick Charles has had an enthusiasm since childhood for doing detailed work, loving to sink his "artistic teeth" deeply into drawing forgotten places, topographic views, crumbling buildings, wharves, trees, tall ships; and behind all these, their stories.
Since 1989 Rick has been etching, literally "biting", his drawings into copperplates for printing. He uses the same medium to etch as was used for the plates of the artwork that was published in explorers' voyages more than 200 years ago.
Though his original prints have been mainly limited editions and monochromatic, two editions are in colour. The plan is to do more "open" editions in color and more monoprints, Lord willing.
